Organization
At Slocum, we strongly believe it is independence, service, and experience that differentiate one consulting firm from another. We receive no revenue from brokerage services or soft-dollar arrangements, we do not allow investment managers to “sponsor” client conferences, we do not sell database information or research to investment managers, and we receive no compensation in any form from investment managers for inclusion in searches or in our databases. It seems self-evident that you should not ever have to wonder about our loyalties and motivation, but our independence has not been commonly duplicated in our industry.
We look at service as a combination of work ethic and attitude that can be summed up simply: We are committed to do whatever is necessary to make ourselves useful to you. The hallmark of our service is the length we will go to in our pursuit of service excellence. This claim is flawed by the nature of our proof-by-assertion statement, so don’t take our word for it. We strongly urge you to call around and ask about us. There is a reason we get a steady stream of referrals.
Our experience is best evidenced by the stability of our senior staff and the quality of our asset class research teams. The continuity and deep familiarity with each other ensures the consistency of our firm’s advice across all consulting personnel.
Most of our asset class research directors have significant experience managing portfolios and trading. The hands-on experience that these individuals carry with them means that our research team does not just have lots of CFAs after their names (and therefore a lot of theoretical knowledge), but also real world experience. This blend of practical and theoretical knowledge is our competitive advantage in research.
