About Slocum
Slocum has provided investment consulting for institutional funds since 1986. As over hundreds of clients have learned, we provide completely independent advice and unbiased analyses because we sell no services to money managers and no investments to fund sponsors. Our institutional plan sponsor clients have always been our only source of revenue. As a result, our best interests are aligned with our clients' best interests.
Jeff started the firm in 1986 after a stint in investment consulting at Merrill Lynch. During this previous life, Jeff realized that conflicts of interest can be serious and result in poor plan decisions, structure, and ultimately, investment returns. When Merrill Lynch sold the consulting division to a competitor, Jeff and some of his colleagues started their own consulting firms. These firms are scattered across the country; all are independent, and all are founding members of the Independent Consultants Cooperative (ICC). Membership in the ICC gives us access to the largest database in existence of independently calculated portfolio returns; it also provides an information and gossip network to assist us in our manager and market research.
We consult with several types of institutional funds across North America. Our client base predominantly consists of Retirement Plans, Endowments and Foundations, Healthcare Organizations, and Religious Organizations. Please see the Institutional Investors section of this website for a more complete description of the services we offer and the ways we tailor those services for each type of client.
Our consulting practice relies on rigorous capital markets research, and deep due diligence on investment managers. We conduct all of this research through our five dedicated teams of research personnel, who cover the globe analyzing all types of institutional-quality investments. Please see the Manager Due Diligence section of this website for a more complete description of our capabilities.
